Gramin Health Care is working to institutionalize inclusive healthcare for rural India through an ecosystem approach. It combines technology with brick and mortar centres to create an asset-lean model in a hub and spoke setting.

As a vast majority of rural population in India does not have access to basic healthcare facilities due to lack of qualified medical professionals and practically non-existent medi-care infrastructure, Gramin Health Care was started in 2016 with a single-minded focus to bridge this gap in a holistic, self-sustainable and scalable manner. We have touched 0.4+ Mn so far via our 80+ clinics present in 6 states. GHC operates walk-in centres which are managed by paramedics who connect the patients with doctors through Assisted Telemedicine. Health Vitals of the patients are captured and stored on a Cloud based system. The centres are organized in Cluster model, with 7-10 centres forming a cluster. This model allows ease of operability. To make the solution affordable for all, we have included an innovative feature called the Health Card. Each Health Card allows a family of 4 members to avail services at GHC centres at subsidized cost for a year. It carries 750 points and is currently offered at subsidized rate of Rs 20 for initial 2 years, actual price being Rs 220 per card. More than 0.14 Mn Health Cards have been disbursed till date. We represent trilateral alliance of government, industry and community. Our strategic partners include one of the biggest cooperative society of India–Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) with greater visibility & reach. Through our partnerships, we offer comprehensive solution like diagnostics, tertiary services, etc at subsidized cost.

Problem

Healthcare facilities in rural India are not accessible and affordable, making a large part of the population vulnerable to health risks which are easily avoidable otherwise. Lack of healthcare infrastructure, professionals and resources have resulted in inadequate facilities, rise of quacks and need for covering large distances in order to receive medical treatment. Lack of awareness and affordability continue to be barriers in people availing healthcare services.

Solution

Our innovation combines technology with brick and mortar centres to provide last mile connectivity. GHC operates walk-in centres which are managed by paramedics who connect the patients with doctors through Assisted Telemedicine. Health Vitals of the patients are captured and stored on a Cloud based system. Health cards offered at Rs 20 for a family of 4 on annual basis ensure affordability. Our trilateral alliance of government, industry and community strengthen the model.

Target Beneficiaries

This innovation targets to provide healthcare to the rural population of India which is largely underserved so far. In rural India, women comprise of ~48% of the population while men account for over 50% of the population. At GHC, women form around 40% of the client base and men constitute ~60% of it. ~20% of our patients belong to the age group of 31-40 years, it is closely followed by people from age group of 41-50 years.

Mission and Vision

Our Mission is to provide healthcare to underserved communities at a cost they can afford, at a distance they can access, with the dignity that they deserve. We aim to make healthcare services affordable, accessible and available to provide last mile connectivity. Through our outreach activities and camps, we strive to create awareness among rural population on various diseases. We hope to make primary & preventive care well within the reach of all.

Competitive Advantage

Following features of our innovation set it apart: -Model: This model allows last mile connectivity. Additionally, it is a scalable and sustainable model which has already been replicated at multiple locations and can be further expanded. Maintaining data online in rural areas is an important element that strengthens our model and distinguishes it. -Ecosystem Approach: We provide a comprehensive solution and not just fragmented services. While we focus on preventive and primary healthcare, we understand the importance of linking other services to have a complete package. Therefore, we form strategic partnerships that enable us to offer various services at discounted cost. -Health Cards: . Each Health Card allows a family of 4 members to avail services at GHC centres at subsidized cost for a year. It carries 750 points and is currently offered at subsidized rate of Rs 20 for initial 2 years, actual price being Rs 220 per card.

Planned Goals and Milestones

With a mission ‘Health for All’, Gramin Health Care plans to provide institutionalized healthcare access to 25 million people in rural India in the next 5 years. Scale up Assumptions: • 1 Primary Center caters to 10 villages having a population of approximately 3,000 each. That sums up to around 30,000 people being covered by 1 Primary Centre. 1 Cluster consists of 10 Primary centres which cover a population base of nearly 0.35 Mn. •We’d scale to 3500 centres in 5 years.
